USA/China – Army Chief Proposing Closer Military Ties: US Army Chief of Staff, General Odierno, confirmed (22.02.2014 – Beijing) that the USA is seeking to reach a bilateral agreement with China aimed at deepening military exchanges between the two nations, expanding cooperation and managing differences constructively. According to the sources available, the US Army is committed to cooperate with China on Peacekeeping, disaster management operations, humanitarian relief. The remarks occur while diplomatic differences between China and USA are frequent (South China Sea, Dalai Lama etc – see for example the latest Chinese FM Spokesperson remarks on Barack Obama meeting the Dalai Lama here).
